Homeschooling is a Piece of Cake (2008 Convention Class) Intro

Introduction

When you first consider homeschooling you find yourself in an alternate world that differs from the mainstream. There is a new language to learn, there are new expectations placed on you as the homeschool teacher and without support it be may unappetizing. In the next forty five minutes I’m going to show you how homeschooling really can be a piece of cake.

1) Find the Educational Philosophy that is right for your family.

An educational philosophy is an individuals perception and expectation of how and what children should learn. A foundational premise to homeschooling is that PARENTS have the right to choose the educational philosophy that best meets the needs and beliefs of their family.

This is the plate that we are going to put our cake on. What your plate looks like is purely a matter of aesthetic choice or possibly a matter of necessity. It may be the only plate you can find!

I am going to give you a brief highlight of some of the most common educational philosophies used in the homeschool community. You will need to decide which is best for your family. I would challenge you to continue to learn more about these ideas as part of your personal professional development through your homeschool journey.
